CHAPTER 17 Jesus' Prayer

1 These things Jesus spoke, and lifted up his eyes unto the heaven, and said, O father, [³has come ¹the ²hour]; glorify your son! that also your son should glorify you. 2 As you gave to him authority over all flesh, that all whom you have given to him, he gives to them life eternal. 3 And this is the eternal life, that they should know you the only true God, and [³whom ⁴you sent ¹Jesus ²Christ]. 4 I glorified you upon the earth; [²the ³work ¹I perfected] which you have given to me that I should do. 5 And now [²glorify ³me ¹you], O father, with [³of yourself ¹the ²glory]! which I had [³before ⁴the ⁵world ⁶being in existence ¹with ²you]. 6 I made manifest your name to the men whom you have given to me from out of the world. They were yours, and [²them to me ¹you have given]; and your word they have given heed. 7 Now they have known that all things, as many as you have given to me, [²from ³you ¹are]. 8 For the words which you have given to me, I have given to them; and they received, and they know truly that from you I came forth, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I [²concerning ³them ¹ask]; not concerning the world do I ask, but concerning whom you have given to me; for they are yours. 10 And the ones mine [²all ³yours ¹are]; and the ones yours mine; and I have been glorified in them. 11 And no longer am I in the world, but these [²in ³the ⁴world ¹are], and I [²to ³you ¹come]. [²father ¹O holy], keep them in your name! the ones whom you have given to me, that they might be one, as we. 12 When I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name; whom you have given to me I guarded, and not one of them perished, except the son of destruction; that the scripture should be fulfilled. 13 And now to you I come, and these things I speak in the world, that they should have [²joy ¹my] having been filled in them. 14 I have given to them your word; and the world detested them, for they are not of the world, as I am not of the world. 15 I ask not that you should take them from out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil. 16 [²of ³the ⁴world ¹They are not], as I [²of ³the ⁴world ¹am not]. 17 Sanctify them in your truth! [²word ¹Your] is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I also send them into the world. 19 And for them I sanctify myself, that also they might be ones having been sanctified in truth. 20 [³not ⁴for ⁵these ¹And ²I ask] only, but also for the ones believing [³through ⁴their word ¹in ²me]; 21 that all might be one; as you, O father, are in me, and I in you, that also they in us might be one; that the world should believe that you sent me. 22 And I [³the ⁴glory ⁵which ⁶you have given ⁷to me ¹have given ²to them], that they should be one, as we are one. 23 I in them, and you in me, that they should be perfected into one; and that [³should know ¹the ²world] that you sent me, and loved them, as you loved me. 24 O father, whom you have given to me, I want that where I am, also those should be with me; that they should view [²glory ¹my], which you gave to me; for you loved me before the founding of the world. 25 [²father ¹O Righteous], even the world [³you ¹did not ²know], but I knew you, and these knew that you sent me. 26 And I made known to them your name, and I will make it known; that the love which you loved me [²in ³them ¹should be], and I in them.
